7th Annual Girls Night OUT

Fifteen girls and their mentors came out to enjoy an evening of motivation and good old fashion pampering to prepare them both mentally and physically for back to school. The evening started as it always has with a fashion show, where the girls get to show off the outfits they purchased at a local thrift store or received by way of a CAP or community donation. This all happens with a red carpet and great music to give them that true runway experience.

After the fashion show, the girls were surprised by their presenter; Miss Teen New York Corrin Stellakis from nearby Bridgeport, NY. Corrin is a junior at Chittenango High School in our own Madison County. This was a thrill to say the least for our pre-teen group as well as all the mentors, volunteers and guests. Corrin spoke about her platform (Dream-Believe-Achieve) and how important “being good to yourself and others is”. Corrin brought messages of goal setting and believing in yourself to our young mentees. She closed with a quote she has chosen to live by…” Live in such a way that if someone spoke badly of you, no one would believe it.”

The remainder of the evening included; a hip-hop instructional dance, pampering stations which included; hair, nails, skin care, a healthy snack station and an opportunity to go shopping in our donation room where the girls could fill bags with donated clothes, school supplies and other “girly/sporty ” items to make back to school extra special.

This evening would not be possible without the support of our CAP staff, community partners, volunteers, many donations of goods and services and the generosity of the Madison Cortland ARC in Oneida for the use of their wonderful space. A new supporter; George Rink, owner of Express Limousine, provided limo rides for our girls for the evening!

The following funders make the program and activities possible. Department of Social Services, Madison County Youth Bureau, OPWDD,  United Way of Greater Oneida and may other contributions throughout Madison County.
