Dear Friends of Community Action Partnership for Madison County: In times of economic uncertainty, the programs provided by CAP are even more important. In 2009, the agency served 1,819 households (approximately 4,550 individuals) throughout the county and, despite some small funding cuts, has been able to grow and support our mission to serve low income citizens in new and innovative ways. Our new Homelessness Prevention Program has provided rental support and financial literacy case management services to over 90 families that we were not able to serve in 2008. The funding that CAP received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has enabled us to provide wage subsidies to six full-time workers at local companies who otherwise would not have been able to return to the workforce. The Recovery Act funding has also allowed us to provide an additional 4 car grants to Madison County residents looking for work, provide daycare subsidies to 12 families so that they could maintain their employment, and assist over 70 individuals in job seeking skills—26 of those individuals are now working! The impact of job losses, funding cuts and economic uncertainty hits families living below the poverty level the hardest, yet our team remains fully committed to our mission of assisting families to achieve self-sufficiency at all levels. The community has also rallied in support of our effort to help local families in need. To date, we have raised over $82,500 for our Be the Change campaign—our effort to raise $150,000 in support of our mission. These funds will help protect and preserve agency programs during times of economic uncertainty so that we can continue to provide Madison County residents will the services they need during times of greatest struggle. Thank you for your support of this mission, not only for the individuals and families served, but also for our community as a whole. Sincerely, Julie Dale |
